Breeding: Pure and Crossbreeds
There are many types of breeding goals in Eqcetera but, knowing if you will make a pure breed, recognized crossbreed or generic crossbreed is important.
Pure breeding is when you breed the in-game purebreds to make purebred horses. For example, an Arabian x Arabian will produce a purebred Arabian foal.
Eqcetera offers quite a few recognized crossbreeds to breed for. These crossbreeds can be produced through breeding their pure parent breeds. For example, a Quarter Paint is a Quarter Horse x Paint and will always produce a Quarter Paint foal.
|Parent Breed||Parent Breed||Crossbreed|
|Thoroughbred||X||Quarter Horse||=||Appendix Quarter Horse|
|Quarter Horse||X||American Paint Horse||=||Quarter Paint|
|Appaloosa||X||Shetland Pony||=||Pony of the Americas|
|Andalusian||X||American Paint Horse||=||American Azteca|
|Thoroughbred||X||Irish Draught||=||Irish Sport Horse|
|Irish Cob||x||Clydesdale||=||Drum Horse|
If you breed two horses together that won’t produce a purebred or a recognized crossbreed, then you will create a generic crossbreed. For example, A Warlander x Friesian does not produce a purebred foal nor a recognized crossbreed. It will be called a plain o’ crossbreed.

As a breakdown, there are now 3 ways to breed:
Pure x Pure – There is a set BS for all purebreds in the game. The closer a foal is to the perfect number, the higher the rating is. A pure x pure breeding with the same breeds will result in a pure while those of different breeds will result in either a registered or unregistered cross.
Reg Cross x Reg Cross – If the registered crosses are the same, the foal will be a registered cross. Note: Registered crosses have their own BS and are not a direct average of the two parent breeds.
Unregistered Cross x Anything else – This foal will always be an unregistered cross. Breed percentages are calculated on parentage. You could, in theory, have 10+ breeds in the same foal, with lower percentages of each breed. At 95% of one breed, all unregistered crosses will revert to 100% of the dominant breed and be labeled as a “Grade” [purebreed name].
So you may ask… how is BS for these unregistered crosses calculated? That’s where these percentages of breeds in the foal become important. The BS will be a straight calculation of the weighted average of each BS stat.
Ex: You breed together a Friesdale with a Clydesdale x APH cross. The resulting foal will have 25% Friesian, 50% Clydesdale, and 25% APH. Say, for example, those breeds had the following Topline stats: Friesian – 34, Clydesdale – 56, and APH – 77. You can then use the following formula to determine the perfect stats:
(34 * 0.25) + (56 * 0.50) + (77 * 0.25) = 8.5 + 28 + 19.25 = 55.75 => 55
Body Types and Breeding
Every breed has an assigned body type that helps determine what foal art and adult art is produced. Purebred and recognized crossbreed have an assigned body type. Generic crossbreeds use a formula to determine foal and adult art.
Generic Cross Body Types
Body type category is decided by the average type (Light x Light Draft = Stock because it is the middle size.) If they are beside each other or two body types are between them, the “lighter” of the two will be chosen (Light x Stock=Light and Stock x Light Draft=Stock). The only exceptions are Draft x Light= Light Draft, Draft x Light Draft=Draft and Draft x Pony= Draft.
