June Blog: Crossbreeding & Campaigns
In February of 2021, we launched Crossbreed Campaigns which gives players the ability to create any crossbreed they want. Through doing so many new breed campaigns have begun and several are well on their way to having 100% completion. We hope by the end of 2021 we will have our first crossbreed campaign approved and art created! Who will it be?
Right now there are 4 campaigns with 10% or more completion with several not too far behind! These campaigns highlight player dedication to creating their own breed through community building and
Spotted Stock Horse (SSH)
The Spotted Stock Horse is founded on the versatile capabilities of the Quarter Horse and the Appaloosa. Bred to be a true do-it-all mount, the Spotted Stock Horse is more than just its spots; it is a trusty competitor, perfectly efficient in all disciplines thanks to its gentle and willing temperament. Supplying the breed’s smarts, endurance, and unique spotted style, the Appaloosa brings out the best in its quick and agile counterpart — the sensible, sturdy Quarter Horse. Together the two create a flashy reimagination of your typical stock horse, breathing new life (and markings!) into its speckled offspring.
American Stock Horse (ASH)
The American Stock Horse is a truly all-around breed, just as capable of elite Dressage as it is of daily ranch work. Combining the best characteristics of three all-American breeds, the American Stock Horse is known for its intelligence, agility, and versatility — not to mention its color! American Stock Horses must be 50% genetically Quarter Horse, but can be any other percentage combination of American Paint and Appaloosa.
A cross between the gentle Irish Cob and the sturdy Welsh Cob. The draught pony will be very cobby and well suited to driving and carriage activities. Both the cobs bring endurance, intelligence, courage and a hardiness that would make them a contender in other areas as well. They average 14-15hh with more of a draught pony feature rather than a course draft horse head. Their eyes are expressive, bold and inquisitive. They are of a definite cob type with a short coupled body and well sprung ribs. Their abundant feathering can be seen in their mane, tail and lower leg feathering.
Irish Mountain Pony (IMP)
A cross between the stunning Irish Cob and the plucky Welsh Mountain Pony, the Irish Mountain Pony is a light draft pony with a calm, hardworking temperament and an intelligent eye. They are expressive in face and movement, excelling especially at disciplines that require control, strength, and smarts. The Irish Mountain Pony combines the strong personality and refined movement of the Welsh Mountain Pony with the muscle, patience, and intelligence of the Irish Cob, allowing the best facets of both breeds to shine.
In total, there are 35 approved campaigns and that number is growing! Many players have been hard at work on starting lines to begin submitting horses to campaign completion. Notably, horses used for the Appalbred and Warbred campaigns are posted often in the Discord server and give us a peek into their progression as a breed!

Who will be first?
As horses are bred, age up, and produce offspring we should soon be seeing campaign completion numbers rise quickly! That makes us wonder…who will be the first?
We also want to give a mention to those who are doing grade horse projects! We have had our first grade horse layer completed, varnish roan for Andalusians, and believe we will soon be seeing many new grade horse layers requested. Some projects have been posted to the forum such as the Perch Color Project, while others have been mentioned in the Discord server such as colorful Brumbies, silver Arabians, and overo Clydesdales.

With the February update that included crossbreed campaigns and grade horses, we knew we had only begun to scratch the surface of what crossbreeds could add to help make more unique gameplay. We like to think we cover every possible idea for a new feature but, sometimes we may miss something that would be obvious that players may enjoy. We are opening up a form for players to give us ideas as how to make crossbreeds even more exciting and useful to gameplay. Have a new feature idea for crossbreeds? Maybe an improvement upon a current feature?
